This is a compilation album including Brian's favorite songs from Vagabond Bones & Bastard of the Blues PLUS two tracks not previously available on vinyl: Champagne Communist and The William Tell Overture.  Most of the songs were written by Brian & Sean Kelly, one of Canada's best rock/jazz/country guitarists.  Sean also plays for Nelly Furtado, Glass Tiger, Lee Aaron, Gilby Clark, and many other notable recording stars.  The album comes on green vinyl and the inside sleeve contains all the lyrics to the songs. VOLLMER/PLEASURE DOING BUSINESS:  

This 10 song album was originally the HELIX album "IT'S A BUSINESS DOING PLEASURE". The songs were written in Brooklyn, N.Y. with Marc Ribler and were originally intended for Brian's solo album.  Brian & Marc had developed a writing relationship/friendship during the writing of BACK FOR ANOTHER TASTE when they wrote GOOD TO THE LAST DROP (which became a huge radio hit in Canada)  and MIDNIGHT EXPRESS.  At the same time Brian was writing with Paul Hackman for the upcoming HELIX album.  Sadly, Paul was killed in a tragic automobile accident while returning from a western Canadian tour.  Many people urged Brian to fold the band at this point; since Paul was not there anymore, and because he was such a large part of HELIX, they felt that the band would never be the same.  William Seip, who was the band's manager at the time, persuaded Brian to release his solo album  as a HELIX album.  Although some of the songs ie. That Day is Going to Come became Top 40 hits in Canada, traditional HELIX fans were somewhat put off by the change in direction ot the music, which was less metal and more main stream music.  As a result, the album stalled-even as the band gained a whole new legion of fans who loved the new direction.  In retrospect, every band that has a long career, explores many different styles in their writing.  Look at Neil Young!  This album is also interesting as it has many high profile guests participating:  Kim Mitchell on Sleeping in the Doghouse Again, Lee Aaron on Look Me Straight in the Heart, and Molly Johnson on many of the background vocals.  Several years ago Brian decided to release the album again, only this time under his own name.  He replaced Mad Mad World and Sleeping in the Doghouse Again with Hungover (But Still Hanging In) and Still Got that Look in Your Eyes.  So no Kim Mitchell...sorry!  This album is a gatefold album, which means it opens up.
